So, how much does outdoor advertising cost? Let's begin!

Quick jump to:

In a hurry? Here's a summary 📝

💪🏻 Outdoor is STRONG: OOH is a high-growth sector in Hong Kong, currently the best-performing traditional media.

  • Cost Range: Average OOH campaign costs range widely, from a low of HK$46,000 (Promo Trucks) and HK$55,000 (DOOH) up to HK$500,000 (Airport), reflecting audience affluence and dwell time.

  • Key Transit Media: MTR Advertising averages HK$160,000, offering high-value reach to captive commuter audiences. Bus and Minibus are more affordable mass-market options.

  • Locations: Non-transit sites are split between costly Premium Hubs (e.g., Central, HK$170,000) and more efficient Mass Market Value areas (e.g., Mong Kok, <HK$70,000).

  • Affordable Entry: DOOH is highlighted as one of the lowest-cost formats per campaign due to flexibility and lack of production costs.

Billboard

Outdoor advertising rates - billboard 2026

How much does a billboard advertisement cost? It can fall into the middle to upper range. They offer high visibility and large-scale branding, typically targeting vehicular and pedestrian traffic on major roadways.

The actual campaign price can vary a lot based on size, location, and demand, with billboard rates observed from as low as $50,000 to $190,000 and up. For example, a highway billboard cost will be drastically different from one that is in a less-trafficked suburban area.

DOOH

This is considered one of the lowest cost formats per campaign with an average of HK$55,000 this year. DOOH is flexible, and the entry point is low due to no production costs required. It is also the ability to buy shorter runs (e.g., 8-second slots in a rotation). Advertisers usually will buy a collection of OOH screens across different locations to cover ground, which is what we don't show here. Our average is taken based on individual locations. But of course, if we're talking the iconic Sogo LED wall or rooftop LED that makes you a part of the skyline at Victoria Harbour, you can expect significantly higher costs!

MTR

MTR advertising considered mid-to-high in OOH advertising cost. Driven by captive audience (commuters walking in concourse areas, waiting on platforms or inside trains) and extremely high traffic volume in central station locations. Formats include lightboxes, escalator posters, digital panels, wall stickers, in-train TV, window stickers, and more. Although the campaign average is HK$160,000 for us, it can range anywhere from HK$50,000 to HK$200,000+, depending on scale and other factors.

Bus

Bus advertising can be an entry to high-cost medium with a campaign average of HK$78,000. A more affordable option for mobile mass-market reach than trams, for example. And again, it is highly dependent on the formats chosen. The more route coverage, the more vehicle body coverage, the more you buy, the more expensive. However, bus ads also offer lower-cost formats like seatback stickers and smaller bus body placements, perfect for those who are looking to start small and smart.

Tram

Tram advertising is considered a more premium media compared to other transit ads, with a campaign average of HK$280,000 this year. It offers large, high-impact mobile displays on fixed, high-traffic routes within Hong Kong Island, ensuring repeated exposure to dense urban populations.

Taxi

With an average campaign budget of HK$325,500, taxi advertising is grouped into higher costs this year due to the number of buys usually needed to make an impact.  That way, campaigns can cover huge volumes of impressions in various locations. Although smaller campaigns are still possible with a smart budget and media plan, just ask us how!

Minibus

The most affordable transit format with an average campaign budget of HK$60,000. Minibus advertising offers hyper-local, targeted reach in specific neighbourhoods, often serving shorter routes with a smaller overall audience reach, which translates to a lower average budget.

Promo Truck/Event

Promo trucks commands the lowest average campaign budget at HK$46,000 due to shorter durations and smaller buys. Campaigns usually last only for the run of the event, ranging from a single day to a week. This format offers highly concentrated and targeted exposure to a specific, self-selected audience whose demographics and interests align with the event's theme (e.g., music, sports, trade shows).

Airport

Last but absolutely not least is Hong Kong airport advertising. The high average budget of HK$500,000 is driven by affluent audience demographics, high security, extended dwell times (1-2 hours), and the perception of a premium, unavoidable media environment. The cost reflects an exclusive reach to business travellers and high-net-worth individuals.
